About Us

Curis Financial Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members and governed by a member-elected Board of Directors with the stated purpose of serving its members'/owners' financial needs.

Curis Financial is a South Carolina state-chartered financial institution supervised by the South Carolina Department of Banking and is also federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which is regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government.

Curis Financial Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative committed to providing exceptional financial services while respecting individual needs. We strive to exceed our members' expectations by keeping our commitment to their financial health and success.

Curis Financial Credit Union Origins

Curis Financial's roots began with the formation of SC Baptist Hospital Employees' Credit Union in 1964 along with the formation of Richland Memorial Employees' Federal Credit Union in 1972 (previously known as Columbia Hospital which opened in 1967).

In the late 90's, the SC Baptist Hospital merged with the Richland Memorial Hospital to become Palmetto Health. Interestingly, the Richland Memorial Hospital also had a connection to a supporting financial institution, Richland Memorial Credit Union. Unified by a shared purpose to serve healthcare employees, our credit unions merged in 1999 to become Palmetto Health Credit Union (PHCU). PHCU began operations with 6,493 members and assets of under $20 million, serving the employees of the newly formed Palmetto Health Hospital later known as Prisma Health, the SC Baptist Convention along with employee family members with offices in Columbia, SC and Easley, SC.

As PHCU grew over the years, we remained steadfast in our dedication to healthcare workers, their families, and the surrounding community. In 2017, another significant hospital merger took place when Palmetto Health and the Greenville Hospital System teamed up to become the largest healthcare organization in South Carolina today- Prisma Health.

 This change provided us with a wonderful opportunity to revisit our name and brand once again. This time, we needed to differentiate ourselves from current and former hospital names while strengthening our alliance with Prisma Health. We set our sights on a modern and fresh look that honors our heritage of serving the healthcare community.

After careful consideration, we have become Curis Financial Credit Union.

In Latin, "Curis" translates to "care" or "help". Since 1964, our commitment has been to care for the members of our community through steadfast and collaborative financial support.
